The Integrated Power Systems (IPS) Directorate is responsible for developing systems and components for the construction of the COLUMBIA Class main propulsion systems.The core focus of the group is electric drive propulsion component integration, secondary components and ship system components development and testing for the delivery of the COLUMBIA Class to meet the growing need of the United State Navy.
The Integrated Power Systems (IPS) Directorate is also responsible for:
- Perform engineering calculations in support of component design disclosures
- Generate/review engineering drawing and installation procedures
- Interface with internal Electric Boat support groups
- Preparation of technical correspondence between Electric Boat and suppliers/customer
- Review of supplier technical and programmatic submittals

The Propulsion Plant and Ship Systems - COLUMBIA Directorate is responsible for the engineering and design of Propulsion Plant Systems, Structures, Arrangements, and Shielding for COLUMBIA Class. This directorate will also provide fleet support to commissioned COLUMBIA Class submarines. Our engineers and designers develop and analyze all propulsion plant fluid systems and structures on COLUMBIA Class submarines.
Propulsion Plant and Ship System Summer Interns may be responsible for the following tasks:
- Performing calculations on fluid systems, structures, and components
- Ensuring that system requirements and specifications are being met by our designs
- Engaging with the Design workforce, Construction Trades, and NAVY representatives to implement new designs or resolve design and construction issues
- Working in a team environment with multiple stakeholders to develop solutions to complex propulsion plant problems
- Evaluating material conditions or design issues onboard a submarine under construction or on a commissioned submarine

Program Office Interns, working with senior staff and mentors, will support construction of submarine modules for COLUMBIA class submarines and VIRGINIA class submarines at Electric Boat's Strategic Partners.
